A giraffe, a fish and a slice of pizza… brings together works from three different SFArtsED Summer visual arts sessions led by Zoe Farmer (sculpture), Richard Olsen (mixed-media) and Tiersa Nureyev (fashion design & visual arts).

Self-portraits incorporating both sewing and collage, a school of swarming ceramic fish that is both singular and diverse, paintings on pizzas and rocks – the diversity of the work is rivaled only by the creativity and high quality with which the students engaged different subjects and strategies during the six weeks of San Francisco Arts Education Project’s annual art summer camp.

At a time when many wish to limit young people’s creations to predictable (and controllable) formulas, this show not only opens up different dimensions of kids potential, but also suggests a rich and multi-sided world in which excellence and discovery are engaged from many sides. – Richard Olsen, curator
