Since 1968, SFArtsED has offered more than 300,000 public school students a chance to paint, dance, act, sing, design, weave, and sculpt – all mentored by working artists. Our programs take place in the classroom, after school, and during summer, because we believe that art is not a luxury for a chosen few, but an essential part of our shared humanity. In this, our 53rd year of arts education, we offer a season
packed with special events – from creative collaborations to live performances to another provocative arts residency in our studio/gallery at Minnesota Street Project.
While last year was rich with challenges, SFArtsED managed to keep the magic happening. Our artist mentors created engaging projects and connected with some 6,500 SFUSD students over Zoom. After months of online rehearsals, our musical theater troupe, the Players, sold out the Fort Mason Flix Drive-in with a filmed performance of Once Upon a Mattress. And 2021 marked the 26th year of our legendary arts summer camp with a welcome return to in-person instruction at Fort Mason and scholarships extended to more than a fifth of our campers.
